Job Description:

Certified Profesisonal Coder (CPC or CPC-A) to provide quality review and analysis of a wide range of patient medical records and ensure accuracy of coding and maintain records in accordance with accepted medical and legal standards. Responsible for reviewing medical records to assure proper billing of the medical records, comparison of physician chosen CPT and ICD-10 codes to the physicians' documentation to substantiate the level of coding, physician services to include identification of professional services in and complete review of medical records to accurately optimize all professional services documented for billing.

Preferred Skills:

Education and/or experience
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC or CPC-A) or Certified Evaluation and Managaement Coder (CEMC) from accredited source (American Health Information Management Association, American Academy of Professional Coders, or Practice Management Institute)
  • At least 2 years of experience relevant to ICD-10 coding or medical record audit experience, preferably OB/GYN
  • Experience with hospital and professional billing for OB/GYN related services

Essential Functions

1. Assign codes to diagnoses and procedures, using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminlogy) codes

2. Provides regular feedback to leadership on performance improvement opportunities 

3. Ensures codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations

4. Follow up with the providers on any documentaiton that is insufficient or unclear

5. Attends training events to stay up to date on regulations and the latest revisions to documentation and coding systems

6. Complies with medical coding guidelines and policies

7. Communicate with other clinical staff regarding documentation

8. Search for information in cases where the coding is complex or unusual

9. Ensure that all codes are current and active as well as associated charges

10. Other projects and/or duties as required
