Job Description:

Essential Functions

The Pharmacist-in-Charge shall be held to all of the duties and responsibilities of a staff pharmacist, but shall further be expected to perform the following.

  • Administrative – complete and submit regular reports associated to the practice of pharmacy in a timely manner.
  • Compliance – perform periodic audits at the direction of the Pharmacy Director or Compliance Officer to ensure that the pharmacy is operating in compliance with all relevant federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Emergency Preparedness – oversee the procurement and dispensing of medications in an emergency situation.
  • Inter-Departmental Relationships – shall act as the primary liaison for the staff of other departments and maintain positive professional working relationships with them.
  • Inventory Control – ensure in the proper handling and record keeping of prescription and scheduled substances in keeping with pertinent federal and state laws and regulations.  Shall determine and ensure maintenance of appropriate inventory levels.  Periodically review inventory for overstocked and outdated product and oversee the processing of necessary returns.
  • Personnel Management - supervise support staff (technicians, cashiers, delivery drivers, staff pharmacists etc.); to include, but not limited to, verification of work, scheduling, delegation of tasks, review of competencies and dispute resolution.
  • Quality Assurance – complete and submit periodic review of processes and outcomes to ensure that the highest possible standards are maintained for all products and services provided. Work with the Pharmacy Director and other department heads to ensure that meaningful changes in policy and processes are developed and implemented.
  • Team Building – set a standard with the staff that fosters a positive work environment

Preferred Skills:

Education and/or experience

 

  • Must hold either a Bachelors or Doctorate degree in pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy recognized by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE). 
  • Must hold a license to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia and be in good standing with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. 
  • Should have a minimum of six months experience in a retail setting.  Must be computer literate and be able to work independently.
