Dr. Susan Hundley will be joining Piedmont Access to Health Services, Inc. (PATHS) in Boydton beginning July 1. Hundley will offer primary care services at PATHS’ new facility at 969 Madison Street, Boydton – in the offices that formerly housed the medical practice of Willoughby Hundley, her brother.
PATHS CEO Kay Crane, said, “We are pleased to have Dr. [Susan] Hundley join our team. She came highly recommended and the folks in the area are used to her.”
Hundley will continue to see patients at the Community Memorial Healthcenter (CMH) owned Clarksville Primary Care Center through the end of May.
CMH created a stir among many of Hundley’s patients when it was announced they were not renewing her contract with the Primary Care Center. That announcement came as PATHS was beginning negotiations to lease office space from Hundley’s brother. Crane explained, “Dr. [Willoughby] Hundley told us about his sister. We met and were both very interested in working together.”
Hundley received her Doctor of Medicine in 1997 from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine. After receiving her B.S. in Biology from Longwood College [now Longwood University] in Farmville, Hundley earned a degree in medical technology from Rockingham Memorial Hospital School of Medical Technology in Harrisonburg. She completed her residency training at Lynchburg Family Practice, an affiliate of the University of Virginia in Lynchburg, and since then her focus has been in family medicine.
Earlier this month PATHS, which currently operates three health centers in Danville, Chatham, and Martinsville, received a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to operate a federally qualified community health center in Boydton, in place of Healthcare on the Square. Crane stressed, “PATHS is open to all patients,” not just those who lack insurance or are covered by Medicare or Medicaid.
PATHS has been providing access to health care since 2001 and operating federally qualified community health centers in Pittsylvania and Henry counties since 2004. Crane allowed, “that this expansion into Boydton, continues PATHS mission of providing access to quality health for everyone.” She added that with Hundley joining PATHS, “We will be in a position to provide continuity of care” for both Hundley’s former patients and those served by Healthcare on the Square.
Hundley and PATHS will offer a wide range of medical services including:
Family Medicine - primary care for the whole family including preventive services and annual screenings for children, adults and seniors;
Chronic Disease Management - diagnosis and ongoing care for diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.
Immunization - protection from, and prevention of, infection diseases
Laboratory & EKG Testing
They accept all forms of insurances, including Medicare and Medicaid, as well as provide sliding fee discounts based on household income.
While their initial focus is on their primary care clinic, PATHS is working to build relationships in the area for patients needing mental health services and prescription medications. Crane said their immediate goal is to institute primary care services – assuring continuity of service and quality care for patients in the area. “We plan to add the ancillary services such as dental care and counseling services over time.”
Assisting Hundley at the clinic will be a nurse and office staff. As Hundley’s patient load grows, PATHS plans to add one or more family nurse practitioners to support her.
